Letter : Chicago, to Sarah K. Bolton, Cleveland, 1890 Oct. 24.

Writing in response to her seeking a position at the Newberry Library for her son, Charles K. Bolton, Poole tries to discourage his interest saying that he would have to begin at the bottom of the ladder, receive a small salary, and climb "slowly and painfully" until the science is learned, and finally earn only "moderate pay." Poole was, and Charles K. Bolton would become, Boston Athenaeum librarian.
